8 Historically, in the land and property sector, the senior employment landscape has largely been male dominated and this is still the case in many businesses. However, at George F. White, we believe if you’ve a strong skill set and ambition, then it’s all about finding the opportunity or business that will support your development and growth. It’s right that we actively encourage and champion one another. Sally joined George F. White in 2014 as Head of Communications and, within six months, was invited to join the board. Over the past four years, she’s successfully rebranded the business, played an instrumental role in the first change of Managing Partner in 25 years, and instructed a full strategic review of the business. Sally was appointed as Operations Director in 2017. Welcoming Sally to the partnership, our Managing Partner Robyn Peat, said: “The amount Sally has achieved in such a short space of time is phenomenal. In her first 18 months as Operations Director, she’s introduced key initiatives, from improving employee wellbeing, strengthening client care and streamlining how the business is managed internally; that’s transformed how we operate, creating a stronger, more successful business model which still puts people at the centre of what we do, enabling consistent growth and development. As a young female director, Highly Commended at the Institute of Director Awards and North East Business Woman of the Year Awards, now Equity Partner, Sally also started a family during such a crucial time in her career. She breaks the tradition in the sector and represents a positive and powerful role model, not only to women in our industry, but women in business across the Northern region. Sally doesn’t just look after the business side of things, but the people who make the business a success too - and that’s a rare talent.” Sally believes that as a business, people are at the heart of everything we do, therefore we concentrate on engaging with young talent, ensuring that we develop the next generation of our team, both male and female, to be the best they can be. Speaking about diversifying our industry, Sally said: “I hope to help inspire other women in business, demonstrating to them that there’s opportunity to excel in whatever industry you work in. The business landscape is forever changing, becoming increasingly competitive and chaotic both at the same time. I truly believe that this presents a great opportunity to push forward the mutual business desire, cross-sector, to create a level playing field and equality for all to succeed.” Currently, Sally’s focus is to ensure that the structure and IT infrastructure of the business allow each and every team member to flourish. The importance of a streamlined and efficient working practice is essential to productivity. Many of our team are based rurally and as the business has matured, expanded geographically and become more commercially focused, there has been a requirement for teams to work remotely/flexibly. Leading the business support team, Sally has introduced new technology to allow teams to collaborate in real time, despite being located in different regions, improving and increasing productivity and engagement. Speaking about the future of George F. White, Sally said: “I believe that our people-led ethos drives growth and prosperity. It’s really important that the team have a fantastic work/life balance and in order to achieve that, we need to be able to provide sound systems and support networks. Technology within business is constantly evolving and in order to stay at the forefront of our industry we must keep up” We are thoroughly looking forward to further developments at George F. White over the coming 12 months. ▪ SALLY HART: BREAKING THE MOULD In August 2018, Sally Hart, Operations Director at George F.
